Seneca One Masonry Project: Balancing Aesthetics and Durability
Our masonry team completed a renovation project in downtown Buffalo at the iconic Seneca One Tower. Seneca One is home to residential apartments and several commercial businesses, including M&T Bank, 43 North, Highmark Health, Douglas Development Buffalo, Other Half Buffalo, Serendipity Labs, and PCI. The client wanted to enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal and structural integrity, so Galbo Group offered two key solutions: brick veneer and full-depth stone installation.
Brick Veneer Installation
Galbo Group tackled the project by first installing the brick veneer on the lower facade of the Seneca One building. After thoroughly assessing the project, our team determined that the veneer suited the client’s needs better than full-depth brick.
1.) Overall Weight & Structural Support: The black brick veneer is significantly lighter than the regular full-depth brick, so it needs less overall structural support to maintain. We can easily apply this veneer to metal, wood, or even existing walls without needing a heavy-duty foundation.
2.) Design Flexibility: The black brick veneer allows for easier customization and retrofitting with the installation that doesn’t require significant renovations to the original structure.
3.) Energy Efficiency: Brick veneer can be installed over insulated walls, maintaining the building’s energy efficiency, as opposed to installing brand new full-depth brick, which can reduce insulation in some cases.
4.) Aesthetic Appeal: The client still gets a beautiful, modern design with the appearance of full-depth brick at a fraction of the cost!
Full-Depth Stone Installation
Both Galbo Group and Seneca One agreed that full-depth stone was the right choice for the clubhouses and the new fireplace inside the building. When you live in Western New York, you need a masonry solution that will hold up against harsh winters. Full-depth stone is structurally sound enough to withstand the Buffalo seasons while still being aesthetically pleasing.
Timeline:
Overall, the project took Galbo Group roughly 18 months to complete.
Results:
Both the brick veneer and the full-depth stone are standing strong and continue to enhance the building’s appearance, even in the unpredictable Buffalo weather.
